Back to Basics
Happy Hump Day, lovelies!
I wanted to use today’s post as an opportunity to get back to the basics with a casual look. Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication in my opinion and that’s what also comes to mind when I see black and white photos. So I decided to incorporate both of these things in today’s post. Personally, as a style blogger, I feel that I should stay true to myself with every outfit I post and write about. I do wear heels almost every day but I’m not huge on dresses (I explained why in my last blog post). I tend to take some fashion trends with a grain of salt and stick to the classics for the most part. I also prefer quality over quantity (also I do live in NYC where closet space is a luxury) so I don’t have a lot of clothes. But that’s how I’ve always been – ask my mother.
I’ve always been a jeans and a t-shirt girl. I had my polo shirt phase and my camisole with the built-in bra phase (what was I thinking) but I came back to my tees every time. I tend to gravitate towards t-shirts when I’m shopping and I seem to always find at least one that I like. On this particular day, I found two! I found the one I’m wearing and the “Blogging All Day” tee from my Moto Chic post. I thought it was cute that on a basic white tee that the pocket had the message and not the entire shirt. But in hindsight all I did was give people another excuse to stare at my chest. Awesome.
I like to call these Rag and Bone skinnies my “mother approved” ripped jeans. Although they’re ripped, the holes are actually filled in with semi-metallic suede patches. I can wear ripped jeans and not get side eye from my mom at brunch? Yaaaas! I’d probably still wear a modest top like a button up blouse to minimize the side eye. A little bit. They’re also super stretchy so they fit like a glove. I’ve had this pair for about two years now. I bought them at Intermix when they were having one of their “if you spend this amount you get this amount off” promotions. If you’re really into jeans, Intermix might become your new BFF. They carry a lot of brands and styles AND they get a lot of pairs that are exclusive to them. Me likey.
I have a secret that not a lot of people know about me: I’m a sneakerhead. I follow Hypebeast and Kicks on Fire to get the latest on when sneakers come out and my ex-boyfriend and I used to be that couple with his and hers sneakers. I just wish I wore a bigger size so that I could own more of the cooler kicks and limited editions because they don’t always make them in my size. Work on that, Nike. Girls like sneakers too. And although these look like basic Nike Dunk high tops, they actually have a 3-inch wedge heel inside of them. It’s the best of both worlds!
I accessorized my basics with my black bomber jacket and mirrored aviators. I’d wear this look to run errands on weekends or to a sporting event. I’m going to my first Yankees game on Saturday. I think I know exactly what to wear to the game now – with some minor changes, of course.
Have a great day!
xoxo, CCB
