To Tuck, Or Not To Tuck
Happy Tuesday, lovelies!
First, I must apologize for the delay in posting. I had every intention of posting this look yesterday but I had been feeling under the weather the entire weekend to the point where a doctor’s visit became mandatory. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and stayed home to rest and recover. To all of you who commented with well wishes for a speedy recovery on my Instagram feed, thank you so much. It really means a lot to me.
I wanted to take the opportunity to use this blog post to talk about how important details are to an outfit. If you look closely, my top is untucked in the first photo but tucked in the second photo. It changes the entire look, doesn’t it? The untucked shirt makes the outfit looked more relaxed and casual but the tucked shirt look gives off a more dressy vibe. That’s how significant a tuck can be when your goal is to achieve a certain overall feel.
This particular tunic is one of my favorite tops. But to be honest, it was a top I bought and ended up in the back of my closet for the longest time. It’s not that I didn’t love it. I just wasn’t sure whether I loved it enough to keep it. I’m so glad that I didn’t return it. In fact, I went back and purchased two more (one solid and one printed) before Nordstrom stopped selling them because I became obsessed with it. I wear it tucked or untucked, with leggings and shorts alike. It’s extremely versatile.
Since this shirt is cream with a black print, you can wear it with just about any color denim – including white! One of my favorite looks with this tunic pre-CCB Diaries was when I paired it with my flyaway leather jacket, a statement necklace, olive jeans, and striped pumps. Sadly, I don’t have this fabulous jacket anymore. A bottle of red wine spilled all over it when it was in the trunk of my car and ruined the jacket. RIP leather jacket. You are truly missed.
These jeans tho! I’ve had this pair for YEARS. You may remember these jeans from my Winter Finale post from a couple of weeks ago. These are Hudson and I love their jeans for two reasons: fit and length. When I try their jeans on, turn around, and look at my tush, all I see is perfection. Sold! Also, Hudson is one of the few brands that I do not have to alter length-wise. That is fantastic when you’re 5’2″ and you don’t want to constantly spend extra money and time waiting for the jeans to be altered to make your jeans look perfect. I also love that their skinny jeans aren’t your typical skinny jeans. They have stretch without being a jegging. Sometimes, you want to wear skinnies but not skin tight jeans – especially when you know you’re going to eat your weight in sushi at the all-you-can eat buffet at lunchtime. Or is that just me?
I decided to wear my over-the-knee boots this time around. I could have worn pumps but it’s still cold in NYC and I’m not a fan of my feet being cold. I’m soooo ready for it to be spring here though. I love my boots but I want to put them away. I’ve been wearing boots since October. I’m over it. And the rain we got all day yesterday was cause for some serious side eye. I mean, it was 74 degrees and sunny on Friday and then it’s 43 degrees and raining yesterday. Get it together, weather.
I accessorized my look with my favorite sunnies, my everyday jewelry, and a bold red lip. What is it about a red lip that automatically makes you feel fabulous – even when you’re wearing the most basic outfit? I love red lipstick. My everyday red is “Red Lizard” by NARS but I have numerous red lipsticks that vary in brightness and color undertones. My favorite “going out” red is “Viva Glam No. 1” by MAC. If you want to know what some of my other favorite lip colors and lipstick brands are, let me know in the comments.
Personal style is all about making fashion unique to you. Play around with different shirt tucks and see how it changes things. I bet even your “uniform” will look better if you did a messy or a half tuck with your t-shirt. Not a fan of tees? Half tucks and messy tucks are great to experiment with your button ups too!
Have a great day!
xoxo, CCB
