Ready To Wear
Happy Wednesday y’all! I must say, ever since I wrote that blog post last week, I’m so much more at ease. It’s like I went to yoga and therapy (I did) and have the ultimate inner peace. However, yesterday was a different story. I felt “off” and couldn’t figure out why. I had a full day of work and wanted to put this post up on the blog but just didn’t feel like it. Didn’t really want to be on Instagram either. So I decided to take a mental health day from all things CCB Diaries and focus on work. I ended up having an amazing day at Bloomingdale’s. Maybe I just need a break? But I digress.
On Sunday, I posted a picture of my brunch OOTD on Instagram and a dear friend of mine said I was #goals because I got dressed in 15 minutes. Apparently, I’m an exception to the girl rule because others said the same thing. I don’t think about these kinds of things much but your comments really got me thinking: how DO I get dressed so fast??
Since we don’t have all day, I’ll give you the short version: my wardrobe is extremely versatile. Essentially, everything goes with everything. Seriously. Y’all notice that I wear mostly separates, right? I do own dresses but not very many. Mostly because I don’t find them to be that flexible. I mean, yes, I can throw on a T-shirt or button up over it to make it look like a top and skirt but that’s about it. See where I’m going with this? I like multitaskers. Plus, frankly, I like my sleep. If I can sleep an extra 20 minutes because I already know what I’m going to wear, that makes me happy.
It also helps that most of my wardrobe consists of neutrals too. Neutrals play well together so I don’t have to worry about colors clashing or trying to figure out if burgundy and blush pink could work (side note: yes, they look amazing together). To make my otherwise boring neutral outfits pop, I add a print or a colored accessory (usually my shoes, jacket, or bag). For example, I wanted the yellow belt to be the star of this outfit. I immediately thought of all black. I keep plenty of black turtlenecks on hand for such an occasion and black jeans are a wardrobe staple of mine so that was easy. Which black jacket to wear was a lot tougher. I didn’t want to do my black blazer because it has gold buttons. I wanted something that was buttonless. Hmmm. Aha! I had my black boyfriend vest. Yaaas! The finishing touches were my YSL Cabas (minimal and chic) and my newest additions to my shoe closet: my Gucci Princetown leather mules. Perfect. The hat was only because my hair is a hot mess or else I could have done without it.
But what about the days when I don’t know what to wear AND I’m short on time?? Yup, I struggle with what to wear sometimes. I’m human. That’s when I reach for my “uniform”. Mine is a T-shirt, blazer, jeans, and killer shoes (usually heels). Works every time! The key is to know what you reach for when you want to feel your most comfortable and confident and then build from there. I’m a T-shirt and jeans gal all the way. When I was younger, I always wore a white tee and blue jeans. All. The. Time. Y’all can ask my mommy. I refused to wear anything else. Basically, I had a uniform before anyone knew what it was. Trendsetter from day one I guess haha. Now that I’m grown, I just think of ways to dress them up a bit without doing too much. That’s where the shoes, jackets, and statement accessories come in for the most part. What I choose to wear as enhancers reflect my overall mood or what I have on my plate that day. Bomber jacket and sneakers with a beanie and door knocker hoops? I’m probably running around all day or doing stuff with Dexter. Kimono and mules? Still might be running around for brunch and shopping but I wanna be cute. I’m with my ladies so I gotta show out😉
xoxo, CCB
