Summer Staples: Denim Joggers
Hey y’all! Happy June! I hope that you had a great weekend and a great start to your month so far. I wanted to do something different on the blog for the rest of the month of June by posting an outfit with my summer wardrobe staples. I’m kicking off my series with these amazing denim joggers.
As you may know, I am a stylist at J.Crew which is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing in the sense that they pay me to play with clothes and dress people all day but a curse because I end up wanting to purchase so many items that they might as well keep my paycheck. The struggle is indeed real! And although I’m not a preppy dresser, there are some items that we carry that I feel like I can incorporate into my existing wardrobe and put my own stamp on them. These joggers are the perfect example.
We got these joggers in my store about 2 weeks ago in 3 different colors: lavender, olive green, and chambray. I was immediately obsessed with them! The lavender is really beautiful but not my scene and I already have olive joggers. Chambray was definitely a winner in my mind because I could style them just like jeans. By the time I got around to purchasing them though, we were out of my size. However, a customer returned an online order in the petite length in my size (one of the perks of being 5’2″) and they fit perfectly. The only difference is that the inseam length is 2 inches shorter so they have more of a cropped look on me. These joggers will be great for me to wear to work during the summer when it gets too hot for jeans because wearing dresses is too much of a hassle for me (no pockets to put my walkie talkie in) and we’re not allowed to wear shorts.
When I was trying these joggers on and hoping they would fit because I really wanted them, I knew IMMEDIATELY that I wanted to style them with this top. This high-low tie top was a random find at Nordstrom back in April. It came in black, oatmeal, and cream. I chose the cream because, honestly, I didn’t want to be so predictable and get black. And I don’t regret it at all. I’ve been a huge fan of high-low hems since the dawn of time because they make me look taller (my prom dress had a high-low hem and don’t even ask what year that was because we’re not going there) and the tie-knot is very on trend right now. I plan to wear it with cutoffs, Bermuda shorts, and colored skinny jeans all summer long.
So, I like to use my work outfits as tests for potential blog looks and my coworkers/clients are the perfect people to get feedback from. I mean, friends don’t let friends wear bad outfits, right? I wore this exact same outfit to work with my Acne Studios boots and they loved it. And even though it’s summer, I’m not allowed to be sleeveless at work so I added my faux leather moto jacket to give the outfit some edge. Plus, I’ll think of any excuse to wear this jacket (as you’ve seen it on the blog many times). It just goes with everything!
And making her blog debut is the newest addition to my handbag collection: the Gucci Dionysus. I’ve been obsessed with this bag since I first laid eyes on it last year. I went to see the canvas version in person and wasn’t wowed by it (no offense to y’all that have one) so I decided to pass. But then, I discovered that it came in suede. Now we’re talking! The only problem was that the small was too small and the large was too big. I was told that a medium size existed but could not seem to find one. Even the Gucci website didn’t have it…ugh! All I wanted was a medium in black suede. I looked for months. Then, two Fridays ago, I popped into Bloomingdale’s to see the new Gucci belts. And out of the corner of my eye, there she was. My heart stopped. She does exist! I had to make her mine and even if I had to eat Top Ramen for the next two months because she was worth it. I’m so in love with her. She’s everything I wanted and more.
…and you’ve seen these shoes a bunch of times on here already so I’ll spare you the details. But I will say that a pop of leopard never hurt any outfit and I’ll break out these babies every chance leopard is needed.
xoxo, CCB
