Happy Monday my lovelies!
Whew, it’s been a minute since I posted on here. And for that I apologize. I got so busy with work and spending time with my new beau that I didn’t have time to create content that was up to my blog posting standards. I’ve still been on Instagram though as it’s easier to communicate and engage there. I like for everything to be perfect from all angles in order to be worthy of posting on the blog – which is a big reason why I don’t post that often. That’s going to change though. I need to get off my high horse and post even when my content isn’t perfect. But I digress. Let’s get to this outfit.
All of my day ones will have seen this exact outfit before. I posted it on the blog back in February of 2016. I remember shooting this outfit with Kristin in midtown Manhattan on the coldest day of the year. OMG it was freezing! She could barely feel her hands even with gloves on but we got the shots. This outfit was a huge hit and got the attention of Fashion Bomb Daily as well as Black Bloggers United. Back then, I was just starting to take my blog seriously so getting this kind of exposure was a huge deal for me.
Fast forward to almost two weeks ago. I was so jet lagged from my fashion week trip that I overslept on the day of my Saks event. I needed to get ready fast so I grabbed the first things I could find in my mess of a closet (it was still a disaster from packing for fashion week and I had only been back for one day). I found one of my black Zara turtlenecks and my black skinny jeans first. Then I threw on the headband because my edges were NOT laid yet (my hairstylist was on vacation) and my go-to hoop earrings. I knew I’d be walking a lot that day so my Stuart Weitzman OTK boots were a no brainer. When it came time to find a coat to throw on, this poncho was sitting on top of a pile of my jackets. Okay, let’s throw that on. But I felt like something was missing to take this outfit up a notch. Hmmmm. Aha! I’ll belt the poncho with my Gucci belt. Perfect! I finished the look with my Charles and Keith bucket bag that I just purchased (and I’m mildly obsessed with it) and I was good to go.
When I say everybody complimented my outfit while I was at Saks pulling my runway looks I mean EVERYBODY did. And they had no idea it was a Forever 21 poncho. It just goes to show you that with the right accessories, you can make a poncho that’s 3 years old look like you bought it last week. The classics never go out of style!
