Karl Is My Father
Happy Wednesday, y’all!
Well, I survived Thanksgiving and it’s only 18 days until Christmas. Where does the time go?? And unlike in year’s past, I did not wait until the last minute to start my gift shopping. I purchased a few items on Black Friday and Cyber Monday for some of my friends and family and I bought a couple of things for myself because, well, why not. One of the fabulous pieces that I ordered online on Black Friday was this “Karl Is My Father” boyfriend sweatshirt from Eleven Paris.
If you’re wondering who Karl is in this instance, this piece is referring to the creative director of Chanel and Fendi, the legendary Karl Lagerfeld. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Chanel (check my Instagram if you don’t believe me) and so I had to have this sweatshirt. There was only one problem: they only sold it in men’s sizes. Bummer. Well, when life gives you lemons, make it into a dress. I decided to order the sweatshirt anyway and style it as a shirt dress with a collared shirt underneath. When Ricky and I shot this look, it was pretty cold out and I had every intention of shooting this look without the tights. I’m really glad that I packed them though because the sweatshirt was shorter on me than I thought it would be. Also, the other look I planned actually needed tights but that’s another post. Sorry, no peeking. I anticipate that this sweatshirt may shrink a bit in the wash so if that happens, I’ll just wear it like I would any of my other graphic shirts (dressed up or down).
To add depth, I decided to style this look with a white dress shirt underneath. See, there’s more uses for white button-ups outside of the office. I love to wear them by themselves with jeans (any style will work) and fun flats or heels to add pop to the look. This one is from Express but there’s a lot of great button-ups at different price points that I like too. H&M has great dress shirts (my striped one in this post is from there) for under $30, Express will set you back about $60, and a Theory blouse (totally worth the splurge in my opinion) will cost you about $250. To top it off (see what I did there), I threw on my black bomber jacket. Remember her from this post? Yeah, I still have her and wear her to death. She was the perfect finishing touch to this look.
You’ve all seen these OTK boots before in this post. They’re still one of my favorite pairs and are fab. If this look doesn’t convince you to buy some OTK boots, I don’t know what will!
Accessorizing Karl
When I was back in California for Thanksgiving, I had the opportunity to “go shopping” in my storage unit aka mom’s garage. Believe it or not, I left about 70 percent of my closet back in California. Since I was there for a week, I had the time to really go through my things and bring back some pieces that I had really been missing. One such piece was this cocktail ring. She’s older than dirt but I love her. I bought her at Express a couple of years ago (don’t sleep on Express because they have AMAZING accessories that are usually on sale) along with some other items that I probably still have too. Ever since we got reunited last week, I’ve been wearing her nonstop. Reunited and it feels soooooo good!
To complete the look, I opted for my go-to Celine sunnies and my signature red lip. And for all you lipstick junkies out there, this color is “Red Lizard” by NARS and I lined my lips with “Cherry” lip liner by MAC. And don’t forget to smile…it increases your face value!
