White and Breton Stripes
I don’t know about you but I am super happy that today is Thursday. We are one day closer to the weekend and I am one week closer to my birthday…yay! But you’ll have to wait until the actual day to find out how old I am so stay tuned for that!
I know that it’s been a while since I’ve done a fashion post on CCB Diaries but some unexpected changes happened with my photographer, Kristin, and I had to find a replacement for the summer. Kristin got a great opportunity to go on tour with a very popular musician this summer (I’m not going to say who but they are a big deal, trust me) and she had to leave right away. I had to search for a new photographer, do a test shoot, and see if their skills were up to par for CCB. I have a certain look and feel to CCB Diaries already and I didn’t want that to change at all. Needless to say, I found a replacement. His name is Roman and he’s outstanding. He’s super easy to work with and definitely understood the look and feel that I was going for. Welcome to the CCB fam, Roman!
Now, let’s talk about this outfit. Seeing as it has been so ungodly hot and humid in NYC lately (not to mention the sudden thunderstorms from said humidity), it’s quite difficult to put together outfits in the summer here. It’s almost too hot for clothes in general so most folks just stay home in the air conditioning. But when I do venture out into the city, I have been wearing my white jeans a lot lately. And this pair of flares has been in heavy rotation since I got them a couple of weeks ago.
This top is an oldie but goodie. I bought it on sale from Saks a couple of years ago when I first got back into shape and felt like reliving the glory days of my late teens when I showed midriff any chance I got. I even have the belly button piercing scar to prove it. I’ve worn this striped crop top with everything from a pencil skirt and strappy sandals out to dinner with the girls or with a fedora, cropped skinnies, and my beloved leopard pumps for a night out on the town while vacationing in Jamaica. And if crop tops aren’t your thing, a striped tee that’s more on the fitted side works just fine here too – like the one I’m wearing under a blazer in my Casual Friday post.
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen these high waisted white flares already. I bought them a couple of weeks ago on major sale (they were already 50% off but I got an additional 20% off because it was a 4th of July sale) and I’m obsessed with them. I had that Transatlantic Tables dinner that I wrote about in my last blog post to go to and I knew that I wanted to wear these jeans. Plus I had the perfect black crop top from Loeil that I was eager to wear with a great pair of flares but hadn’t worn it yet. But the jeans arrived on Saturday and the event was on Tuesday. And I was NOT going to wear these jeans without hemming them first. Luckily, I live in NYC where there’s someone that’s always open to get something done. I found a great alterations shop in the East Village and they said that they could have the pants hemmed by the event. The restaurant was not far from the alterations shop so I got myself 95 percent ready to go, headed to the shop to retrieve my jeans, threw them on in the dressing room, and headed to my dinner. Ta-da! And I’ve been wearing these jeans nonstop ever since. And for all you blue denim lovers out there, these amazing flares come in dark wash too and they’re also on sale. You’re welcome.
Accessorizing the Breton Stripes
I kept my accessories very minimal with this look since I had a lot going on with the stripes and the flares. My mirrored sunglasses are making another appearance after some time off of the blog. I’m still obsessed with them but I tend to only wear them with outfits where I know they’ll really shine (no pun intended). And even though it was hot and humid, I was going out with friends after my blog shoot so I was wearing a full face beat behind those sunnies. Thank goodness for primer and makeup setting spray or I would have melted for sure! Also, a new shade of red lipstick is making its first blog appearance: Viva Glam No. 1 by MAC. I knew that I wanted to wear a true red this time to really make the outfit pop so I opted to wear this one. Other “true reds” that I own are “Red Lizard” by NARS, “Gabrielle” by Chanel, and “Jeanne” by NARS (part of the Audacious collection). I know that someone asked about my skincare routine in my BTS blog post but I’d be happy to share more about my skin and beauty must-haves in another post if you’d like. Just let me know! And you can kind of see my Chloe wedges under the pants. I did do another outfit with the wedges so you’ll get a full look at them on the blog next week!
Have a great rest of your week, lovelies! It’s time for breakfast and another cup of coffee for me!
xoxo, CCB
